CLASSIC ESCAPES THE ORDINARY

Classic can escape the ordinary. There are three well-known bands who have brought classic to unusual style.

First is apocalyptica. In the beginning they rearrange the songs of metallica with their cello, and we know that cello belongs to classic, so it is very rare if a full distortion music like metallica was rearranged by the sound of classic instrument like cello.

Second, with his violin, Michael Jelonek organized a band like the formation of band in the usual but the difference are the formation of violin and cello. For the music they combine the sound of violin as the first sound, and cello for the second sound together the distortion of guitar and the beat of drum and bass. Uniquely the sense of unusual is strong when we watch the video of jelonek titled “Barrock”. In this video, jelonek played his violin in front of a family of aristocrat, in the beginning jelonek played his violin with classical style but suddenly, the family surprise because he combined rock with the classic sounds of violin and cello. But finally the family enjoy the music though it is still unfamiliar to hear.

Third is fonticello from Indonesia. We can see that their instruments belong to classic, but they have composed some songs like ”HOPE” and “ASA” that can give a morning spirit for each listener. Same with jelonek, we can find the unordinary clearly by seeing a cigarette advertisement, that a group of students who learn classical music suddenly change the genre of classic to metal and express themselves (of course with the style of metalhead) when their lecture go for a while. Doing that fonticello got some question whether it breaks the patented rules of classical music or not, but a word “expression” becomes a reasonable answer for the question. Just like the vision of music, it is “ express yourself”.
